The Backstory: There is nothing like a bowl of hot cereal on a cold and frosty morning. Our nutty oatmeal and apples is an energy boosting starter that will delight any child or adult. But serve it plain and it can be boring. The old standby has been to add brown sugar, or cinnamon and raisins to perk this dish up. How about changing some things around and serve your child an alternative. Try some fruit and chopped nuts. By eliminating the sugar you will be giving the kids a better substitute, fruit. Oatmeal Cereal with Fruit and Nuts
- 1 bowl of hot oatmeal cook according to the package directions
- 1/2 sliced and peeled apple or other fruit
- 1/4 cup chopped or whole nuts any nuts can be used
Place hot cereal in a deep bowl, Place the fruit, inside the bowl, add the nuts. Serve while it is hot with your favorite drink.
NOTE: If your child or guest has nut allergies, please omit nuts from this recipe.
