Celebrating Modern Jewish Living Through Food, Tradition, and Family
Hanukkah Menu
Is there any child (big or small) who doesn’t get excited for The Festival of Lights? From the foods to the gifts to the lighting of the menorah, this eight-day festival is one of the best-known Jewish holidays, probably because it usually falls so close to Christmas. Hanukkah however, is a celebration of a miracle, of the people of Israel being able to reclaim the Holy Temple after defeating the Syrian-Greek army, and when going to light the Temple’s candelabra, (which had seven candle arms), having only a little bit of oil to do so. That oil, which should have only been enough to provide light for a single day, burned for eight days instead, inspiring generations to come to commemorate that miracle by celebrating for eight nights and eating foods fried in oil.
