Funny Face Eggs

Funny face eggs are a surefire way to make breakfast fun and nutritious — who could resist such an inviting plate as this?

The Backstory: There is an old saying that “We eat with our eyes”. Well if that is true for adults, it is certainly true that children do the same and our funny face eggs take on breakfast will definitely get your kids eating their breakfast. Some kids are very fussy and refuse to try anything new.  Others will eat everything in sight. Lucky parents have the latter.  And lucky is the child that has a parent who will take the time to present a meal in a fun and creative way. I, unfortunately, was not the creative kind. My kids, (oops, adult children) will attest to that. I wish I had all the parenting material that is out there now to have done some things differently. I would have presented fun and pretty meals for them. More of the Backstory after the recipe

Eggs for Kids

The different colors that make up this breakfast will have the kids looking at all the colors that surround the star of the dish, the eggs. It is also a way of introducing different types of veggies to your kids.
Course Breakfast
Prep Time 5 minutes
Cook Time 3 minutes
Total Time 8 minutes
Servings 1 serving

Ingredients

  • 2 eggs, sunny side up cooked the way you like them
  • 2 thin red pepper rings any color pepper can be used
  • 1/2 black olive or any grape can be used
  • 6 carrot sticks
  • 1/2 cherry tomato
  • 1 large lettuce leaf

Instructions

  1. Place the cooked eggs on a dinner size plate. Place the peppers around the whites of the eggs. Place the olive where a nose would be. Under that put the carrots into a shape of a mustache. Place the tomato to look like a little mouth under the mustache. Put the lettuce as though it was a beard on the chin.
  2. Serve with fresh fruit on the side and their favorite drink.

…The Backstory continues: My daughter is the opposite from me.  She serves things in an appetizing way.  I have seen her use cookie cutters to change the shapes of pancakes, breads, etc.  Veggies are cut into funny shapes, and, well, you get the idea.  Present food to your kids in a different style and the fussiest kid will more than likely try it.
