Aunt Alice's Coffee Cake

Ingredients

For the Cake

  • 1 stick butter or margarine, softened
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 tsp. pure vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp. fresh lemon juice
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. baking soda

For the Topping

  • 1 tsp. ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
  • 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Butter an 8 x 8 glass or baking pan.
  2. In an electric mixer on medium speed, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time and combine. Add vanilla and lemon juice.
  3. Mix in dry ingredients and stir on medium speed until well combined.
  4. Pour half of batter into prepared pan. Sprinkle half of the topping mix on top of the batter. Pour remaining batter on top and cover with the rest of the topping mix.
  5. Bake for 45 minutes. Let cool on wire rack until ready to serve.
