Ingredients
1tbsp.fresh minced garlic
11.4 oz. pkg. dried onion soup mix
1/4cupmustard
1/2cupketchup
1/4cupchili sauce
1tsp.thyme
1/2tsp.pepper
1/2cupwater
2poundsboneless, lean, raw beef brisket
1tbsp.cornstarch
1tbsp.water
Instructions
Make a sauce of the garlic, onion soup mix, ketchup, mustard, chili sauce, thyme and pepper. Put aside.
Place 1/2 cup water in the bottom of a casserole dish. Place the brisket in the pan and brush it with the sauce mixture.
Cover with foil and cook at 325 degrees for 2 1/2 to 3 hours or until the meat is tender.
Collect the drippings to make the gravy. Pour them into a measuring cup and add water if necessary to make 1 cup. Spoon off the fat from the top of the liquid and discard.
Place the drippings into a saucepan and bring to a boil. Dissolve the cornstarch in the water and add to the boiling mixture, Continue boiling while stirring until the gravy thickens.
Slice the brisket (against the grain) and serve with the gravy.
