Grilled Cheese on Challah Bread

The buttery, golden bread surrounds the cheesy filling. Add sliced tomatoes for extra color and a note of tangy freshness.

Ingredients

  • 4 3/4 inch slices of challah bread
  • 2-4+ tbsp. softened butter, divided butter should be soften.
  • 4 slices of cheedar cheese
  • 2-4 thin slices of tomatoes optional
  • thin sliced of red onions optional

Instructions

  1. Important fact. Use low temperature when cooking as butter tends to burn quickly. Have everything all set to go before you heat the large skillet. The pan should be able to hold two sandwiches.
  2. Spread some butter on 2 slices of bread. On the other 2 slices, evenly place 2 slices of cheese on each piece of bread. If using tomatoes, or onions, top the cheese with the tomato slices and or onions. Place the buttered slices face up on the sandwich.
  3. Now heat the skillet with the some butter. Use low heat. When butter is melted, swirl around the pan to cover the bottom. Place the smeared side of the sandwich face down in the pan. Smear the top of the bread with butter.
  4. When golden in color on the face down bread, turn over with a spatula. Now press the spatula down on the sandwich. When the bottom piece of the bread in golden, cheese should be melted. You have to judge the time.
  5. Remove and serve with soup or a salad. Don't forget the pickle!
