Swiss Steak

Savory Swiss steak is fork tender, juicy, and sweet from sauteed onions and peppers. This is a hearty, one-pot meal that’s perfect for weeknight dinners or Shabbat.

The Backstory: I love making one-pot meals and Swiss steak is among my favorites.  You can make this anytime of the day and reheat it when you need to. I have been trying to think were I came up with this recipe and I honestly don’t have a clue.  All I know is that I have been preparing this for decades and love that it can be pulled together in about an hour. More of the Backstory after the recipe

Cubed Steak (Swiss Steak)

This is one of the heartiest and tastiest meals you can prepare. It also is very pleasing to the eye. What with all the different colors of the peppers, onions and herbs. Serve this with crusty bread and rice, noodles or mashed potatoes.

If not cook for a few minutes more. Most of the time, however, the meat is so tender that the meat does fall apart.

Recipe Notes

This delicious meal is also what I call a ‘stretcher’ recipe, as it can go a long, long way.  It can serve many people (it’s fabulous for a dinner party or when cooking for a crowd) and when you think about it, it is also economical.  Even though steak is not cheap, if you add a little more of the pepper and onions, or other veggies, you can get a lot of mileage out of it. Not a bad way to go. Swiss steak is delicious with creamy mashed potatoes, roasted potatoes, wide noodles or rice as a perfect side dish.
